How to install invisible tape weft

With our invisible tape weft, installing semi-permanent extensions is easier than ever before. Your tape weft can be adapted to your hair, and you get a natural, invisible result, even in thin or fine hair. See how to install invisible tape wefts here.

Step-by-step guide

Installing invisible tape weft

1. Find what you need

Before you start the installation, we strongly recommend gathering all the tools you'll need.

To install invisible tape weft, you'll need:

2. Start with freshly washed hair

Before you begin the installation itself, it's very important that your own hair is completely clean and dry, so the tape can stick properly.

It's therefore important to wash your hair with a clarifying shampoo, so all oil and dirt is removed. After that, do not use conditioner, hair mask, oil or other products near your scalp. They can cause the tape to slide out of your hair shortly after installation.

Once your hair is washed, let it air dry or blow-dry it completely dry.

3. Make a plan before installing the hair

It's important to plan how much hair you need and where to place it before you start the installation. You cut your invisible tape weft into the sizes that fit your hair yourself.

Depending on your hair's thickness, expect roughly:

  • 2-3 wefts at the nape
  • 1-2 wefts going up the side of your head

That's around 3-5 wefts, which corresponds to roughly 100-150 grams of hair.

💡Tip: Invisible tape wefts can be installed either with two wefts as a "sandwich" around your own hair, or with a single weft attached around your own hair with single sided tape. Installing two wefts around your hair gives you plenty of volume, while a single weft gives a very flat, light result that's especially good for thin hair.

4. Divide your hair into sections

Start the installation by making a sharp horizontal parting in your own hair roughly 5 centimetres from the hairline at your nape. Always start from the nape, as it makes it easier to keep track of your own hair and your extensions during installation.

Put the hair above the parting away with a large hair clip, so it doesn't get in the way. Use hair grippers to keep all the small baby hairs away from the tape.

5. Attach your first tape weft

Take the tape weft you've cut to a width matching the parting at your nape, and remove the white piece of paper from the tape. Place your tape weft with the sticky side down on your hair just below the parting, roughly a couple of millimetres from the scalp.

Then flip your tape weft up and secure the hair in the hair clip. Use the tip of a tail comb to remove the loose hairs that aren't firmly stuck in the tape, so they don't get in the way.

Place another tape weft (in the same width) opposite the first, so they form a kind of "tape sandwich" around your own hair. You can also choose to apply a piece of single sided tape instead of the extra tape weft. Press the tape together firmly with your fingers, so no air pockets form.

💡Important: Avoid touching the tape during installation - it can ruin its adhesive power, causing your extensions to slide out.

6. Repeat the process on the rest of your head

Make a new horizontal parting a few centimetres above the previous one and install the next tape weft the same way.

When placing one or more tape wefts at the sides, it's important to make the parting slope slightly up towards your face. It gives a beautiful, natural result and makes it easier for you to put your hair up.

7. Enjoy your gorgeous new hair

Once you've installed your entire invisible tape weft, you're done. We always recommend a light trim of the ends of your extensions, but of course that's up to you.

All that's left is to enjoy waking up with long, full hair – every day.

After a couple of months, you can easily remove your invisible tape wefts and apply new tape to them, so they can be used again and again.

How to take invisible tape wefts out of your hair

Once your invisible tape weft has grown out a couple of centimetres, we recommend taking it out. Luckily, it's really easy to use again. Just apply a new piece of tape, and you'll have gorgeous hair for another couple of months.

Here's what to do when your invisible tape weft needs to come out.

1. Pour remover liquid in between the tape

Start by pouring a little remover liquid in between the two pieces of tape, and let it work for a few seconds.

Use a tail comb to gently separate the pieces of tape. Do not tug at your hair to get the tape out - instead, add extra remover liquid if the tape doesn't loosen easily.

2. Remove any tape residue with a tail comb

Start by pouring a little remover liquid in between the two pieces of tape, and let it work for a few seconds.

Use a tail comb to gently separate the pieces of tape. Do not tug at your hair to get the tape out - instead, add extra remover liquid if the tape doesn't loosen easily.

3. Wash your hair thoroughly

Once all the tape is out of your hair, a thorough hair wash is important.

Wash your hair well a couple of times with your favourite shampoo, so it's completely clean. Then treat your hair to a good, nourishing hair mask and conditioner, and it will thank you.
