GUIDE

Washing and caring for ready to wear extensions

You take clip in, ponytail and halo extensions on and off as needed – so washing them is a little different from washing your own hair. They shouldn't be in your hair while you do it.

1. Brush your extensions
Start by taking your hair extensions out of your hair and give them a thorough brush-through, making sure they’re completely tangle-free.

2. Dip the hair in a basin of water
Wet your hair extensions, then distribute our recommended shampoo through the hair. Lather up the shampoo by massaging it into the hair. It's important to be gentle when you do this – and make sure to work in the hair's natural direction, so it doesn't tangle.

3. Rinse out the shampoo and repeat
Then rinse the shampoo thoroughly out of the hair – either in a basin of clean water or under the tap. Repeat once more to make sure you remove all the oil and dirt from the hair. Finally, rinse thoroughly until all the shampoo is rinsed out.

4. Treat your extensions with a hair mask
Once the shampoo is (thoroughly) rinsed out of the hair, gently squeeze the water out of your extensions. Then distribute a hair mask through the lengths. The hair mask should sit for 5-10 minutes before you rinse it out.

5. Put the finishing touch on with conditioner
A good conditioner works wonders for your extensions, as it seals the hair's cuticle layer, leaving the hair smoother and more manageable. Distribute the conditioner through the hair and let it work for 1-2 minutes before rinsing it out.

6. Squeeze the water out and brush the hair
Once you've rinsed the conditioner out of the hair, squeeze out as much water as you can. Brush your extensions with an extensions brush again, and treat them to some hair oil too.

7. Now the hair needs to dry
…But you're welcome to help it along. Whether you let your hair air dry on a towel or use a blow dryer is up to you. If you use a blow dryer, remember to apply a heat protection product to the hair. Blow-dry from the top down – that way you avoid frizz.

8. Finish by styling the hair
Finish by styling your hair with a straightener or curling iron. That smooths down the cuticle layers, leaving your hair extensions soft and sleek. But remember to use heat protection in the hair before picking up the straightener.

Extend the lifespan with the right products

Whether you wear ready to wear or semi-permanent extensions, the right products make all the difference – the hair needs plenty of moisture and care to stay gorgeous (even) longer.

How often should you wash your extensions?

You probably already know that washing your own hair too often isn't good for it, right? It's exactly the same with your extensions.

Depending on how often you wear your hair extensions, we recommend washing them 1-2 times a week (and even less often if you don't wear your ready to wear extensions daily, for example).

But that's only a guideline – if you often train with your extensions in, for example, your hair may need washing more often.
